 The Akbar or Babaghoria bead

37 * 27 * 3 mm

This is not an ancient bead.
This wonderful lapiz lazuli pendant bead is 'only' around 400 years old.
The great Mogul Emperor Akbar made coins in this shape in the 16th century,
and since then this shape has become synonymos with Akbars great reign.
Akbar was together with the Buddhist King Ashoka the greatest King India ever had.

According to bead researcher Peter Franscis the shape of this pendant is named after
the patron Saint of Indian agate industry, Baba Ghor.
Baba Ghor died in the late 15th century.
